Setting a screensaver password on Windows and Mac can help protect your computer from unauthorized access when you step away from it for a short period of time. Note that UAH owned devices are pre-configured to have a password set using your myUAH credentials.
Setting a Screensaver Password on Windows:
- Click on the "Start" button located in the bottom left corner of your screen.
- Type "screensaver" into the search bar and select "Change screen saver" from the list of options.
- A new window will open with a list of available screensavers. Choose the screensaver you would like to use, then click the "Settings" button located next to it.
- In the new window, there is an option to "On resume, display logon screen." Check this option and click "Apply."
- Now, every time the screensaver comes on, you will be prompted to enter your password in order to access your computer again.
Setting a Screensaver Password on Mac:
- Click on the Apple menu located in the top left corner of your screen.
- Select "System Preferences" and then click on "Desktop & Screen Saver."
- Click on the "Screen Saver" tab at the top of the window.
- Select the screensaver you would like to use from the list on the left.
- Click on the "Preview" button to see how the screensaver will look.
- Check the "Require password" checkbox in the lower left corner of the window.
- Enter a password and confirm it.
- Close the "Desktop & Screen Saver" window.
Now, every time the screensaver comes on, you will be prompted to enter your password in order to access your computer again. This will help keep your computer and personal information safe while you step away. Remember to choose a strong and unique password, and do not share it with anyone else.
