Overview

The Enhanced Teaching & Learning Center provides support for a number of A/V-equipped classrooms on campus. This quick troubleshooting guide provides information on how to resolve technology issues with A/V equipment in ETLC-supported classrooms.

General Use

How to start the system

  1. Locate the small touch panel on the tabletop
  2. You may have to touch the screen to wake it up
  3. Press the green “Projector on” button on the touchpanel (may also say “System On”)
  4. Log in to PC with UAH login

How to utilize BYOD

  1. Turn system on using above instructions
  2. Locate HDMI cable in caddy on lectern and plug it in to your device
  3. Select “Guest PC” input on the touch panel (Could be “Guest PC 1”)

Displays

Projector issues

  1. Locate the small touch panel on the tabletop
  2. Have you pressed “Projector On” on the touchpanel?
  3. Are you using the classroom PC or a personal device?
    • If classroom PC: 
      1. Have you selected “Classroom PC” on the touchpanel?
    • If personal device: 
      1. Is your device plugged into the provided HDMI cable? 
      2. Is “Guest PC” Selected on the touch panel? (May also say “Guest PC 1”)

Wacom issues

  • Wacom screen is black
    1. Press the power button located on the top left side of the monitor.
  • A window is covering the screen and can’t be clicked
    1. If the on-screen display menu is at the top of screen
      1. Press middle button at top of wacom
    2. If the on-screen display menu is on the right side of screen
      1. Press small round button on right side of the screen
  • Wacom pen is not working
    • If pen is unresponsive
      1. Restart computer from the icon on the desktop
    • Writing in the wrong spot
      1. Type “Wacom” in the search bar at the bottom of the PC screen
      2. Click “Open” on the “Wacom Tablet Properties” app
      3. Click “Calibrate” tab (next to pen and eraser)
      4. Make sure monitor is set to “DTK-2241” or “DTK-2451” in the dropdown box. (Only one will be available)
      5. Click the “Calibrate…” button
      6. You will see a white screen with a target at the top left. With the pen, touch the center of that target, another will appear. After you touch all of them, click “OK” to complete the calibration.

Dell Monitor/Confidence Monitor is black

  • If logged into classroom PC
    1. Press the power button on the front of the dell monitor
  • If not logged into classroom PC
    1. Dell monitor will not display anything until you sign into the classroom PC

Camera

Not aimed correctly

  1. Locate the small touch panel on the tabletop
  2. Press camera button on touch panel
  3. Use arrows to direct camera
  4. If this does not work, move rooms. DO NOT move the camera by hand.

No video feed in Panopto/Zoom

  • If using Panopto
    1. Find the dropdown box labeled “Video” 
    2. Select “Room Camera” 
  • If using Zoom
    1. Locate the camera icon
    2. Click the arrow next to the camera icon
    3. Select “Room Camera” from the list
    4. If camera icon has a red line through it, click this icon to turn the camera on
  • If using both Panopto and Zoom
    1. Only one app at a time can use the room camera.

Sound

Microphone issues

  • No signal showing on the meter bar in Panopto
    1. Locate the dropdown box labeled “Audio”
    2. Select “Room Microphones” from the list
    3. Drag the slider next to the meter bar up until a signal can be seen.
  • No sound can be heard in Zoom
    1. Make sure you have joined with computer audio
      1. Look for an icon with headphones in the bottom left of the Zoom window. If this icon can be seen, audio is not joined. Click this icon
      2. A box will pop up with the option to “Test Speaker and Microphone.” Click this option
      3. Follow the instructions in the popup guide. The correct speaker should be labeled “Room Speakers” and the correct microphone should be labeled “Room Microphones”
      4. When you see the screen that says “Your device is working properly,” click “End Test”
      5. Click “Join with Computer Audio”
      6. You may need to unmute your microphone
    2. If you have already joined with computer audio
      1. Locate the microphone icon in the bottom left corner
      2. Click the arrow next to the microphone icon
      3. Select “Room Microphones” and “Room Speakers”
    3. If you have completed all of the above and still can’t hear anything
      1. Click the speaker icon on the taskbar at the bottom right of the PC screen. Make sure the volume is turned up and the PC is not muted.

Speaker issues

  • No sound coming through speakers
    1. Check speaker settings on taskbar (bottom right corner)
    2. Make sure “Room Speakers” is selected in the menu to the right of the slider
    3. Turn the audio level up using the slider until it is at a comfortable level
    4. Make sure the speakers are not muted (speaker icon to the left of the slider)
  • Volume in the room is too high/low
    • On classroom PC
      1. Go to speaker icon on taskbar (bottom right), click and adjust slider
    • On personal device
      1. Adjust volume on your own device

No audio coming from a video

  1. Make sure the media player is not muted

What to Do if Troubleshooting Doesn’t Resolve the Issue?

On days that UAH is open, immediate classroom support is available at the following times:

  • Monday - Thursday: 7:30 am to 6:30 pm
  • Friday: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm

If an issue occurs during these hours, please call 256.824.7700 to connect with a classroom support technician.

If an issue occurs after-hours, please report it to ETLC by emailing helpdesk@uah.edu with the building name, the room number, your course number, and a brief description of the problem. If the issue prevents your class from continuing, please move to another ETLC-supported classroom. Visit AdAstra to locate available classrooms.
