I normally use Touch ID, Face ID, or other biometric authentication

If you normally use Touch ID, Face ID, or another form of biometric authentication to verify your identity in Duo, you may be trying to sign in on a device, browser, or app which doesn't support biometric authentication. Examples include Respondus LockDown Browser or the Transact eAccounts app, which powers Charger Card Mobile ID.

Follow the steps below to add another method of authentication to Duo:

  1. On the device and browser you normally use to sign in, visit my.uah.edu.
    • If you've already signed in, either sign out or take these steps in a private/incognito browser window.
    • If you are using Respondus LockDown Browser, you may need to reboot your device to re-enable Touch ID/Face ID.
  2. On the UAH Signle Sign-On login screen, enter your Chager ID and password as normal. But, do not complete the Duo prompt.

  3. Instead, select Other options.

  4. On the Other options to log in screen, select Manage devices at the end of the list.

  5. You'll be prompted to verify your identity. Since this is the device/browser you normally use to sign in, you should be able to verify your identity using Touch ID/Face ID/biometric authentication.

  6. After completing verification, you'll be redirected to the devices page.

The device management portal displays all of the devices currently linked to your Duo Account. Select Add a device to add a new method of authentication. OIT recommends adding the Duo Mobile app as one of your options for authentication.

After adding a new authentication method, try signing in to the new device, browser, or app. You should be able to choose this authentication method when verifying with Duo.

I'm travelling internationally or have an international phone number

If you are currently travelling internationally or are using an international phone number, you may be unable to authenticate via SMS text message or phone call. We recommend setting up the Duo Mobile app, which provides two additional methods of authentication:

  • When your device is connected to the internet, you may simply approve the Duo Push notification in the app.
  • Even if your device isn't connected to the internet, you'll be able to verify your identity using the Duo Mobile Passcode shown in the app.
