What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Summary

An introduction to multi-factor authentication and how it is used at UAH

Body

Overview

Multi-factor authentication, or MFA, adds a second layer of security to your account by requiring multiple factors to verify your identity. These factors include something you know, like your username and password, and something you have, like your phone or a passcode. The use of multiple authentication methods ensures greater protection against cyber hacking than passwords alone.

UAH utilizes two services for multi-factor authentication: Duo and Google 2-Step Verification.

Why is MFA required at UAH?

Besides being a cyber-insurance requirement, protecting your account with Duo reduces the chance that malicious actors can gain unauthorized access to your UAH email or student/employee account and make unauthorized modifications.
