Connecting Personal Devices to Wi-Fi in Residence Halls

Summary

What to do if you live on UAH's campus and wish to connect your game console, media streaming device, printer, etc. to the UAH wireless network.

Body

Introduction

Some devices (such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, and streaming devices) have no interface for entering credentials to connect to the UAH network. They generally do not have a web browser (e.g., a TV or voice assistant), so they are not compatible with the eduroam wireless network.

In order for UAH campus residents to connect their device to UAH Wi-Fi, the wireless MAC address must be provided to the OIT Help Desk. Submit a registration request to OIT using the steps below, and the Help Desk team will register your device so you can access the UAH Get Connected guest wireless network. The connection will be valid for one year.

Steps

Step 1: Locate Your Device's MAC Address

Before registering your device, you will need to find its wireless MAC address.

For step-by-step instructions on finding the MAC address for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV, Google Home, and other supported devices, please refer to our How to Find the MAC and/or IP Address for a Device guide.

Step 2: Contact OIT to Register Your Device

Once you have your device's wireless MAC address, submit a request to the OIT Help Desk:

  1. Review the terms of the guest Wi-Fi policy. By connecting to this network, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not proceed.
  2. Visit this Service Catalog entry.
  3. Click Complete Request Form.
  4. Complete and submit the form.
  5. Await response from OIT with instructions.

Step 3: Connect to UAH Get Connected

Once you hear from OIT that your request has been filled:

  1. Connect the device to the UAH Get Connected wireless network.
  2. If it doesn't connect at first, try restarting the device, or forget the network and reconnect.

Still Need Help?

If you need help completing these steps or experience an issue along the way, please contact the OIT Help Desk.
