UAH CrowdStrike FAQ

What is CrowdStrike?

CrowdStrike is a next generation antivirus with endpoint detection and response that will protect against the rapidly changing tactics, techniques, and procedures used by adversaries to breach organizations. It contains signature-based and behavior-based protection for your computer that will protect you against many of the newest kinds of attacks, such as ransomware and unauthorized remote access.

Why are we using CrowdStrike?

Cyber criminals today are deploying more sophisticated attacks to breach organizations. CrowdStrike unifies next-generation antivirus (NGAV), endpoint detection and response (EDR), cyber threat intelligence, managed threat hunting capabilities and security hygiene, which will better protect UAH assets from modern pervasive threats.

How do I get CrowdStrike installed on my UAH laptop/desktop?

CrowdStrike is installed automatically on UAH-owned machines.  You will not be required to take any actions to install this solution.

What information is CrowdStrike tracking and is it looking through all my files and data?

The data security tools being used to protect your system, including CrowdStrike, are not designed to open and read your files or to track and report details of your online activity unless they specifically pose a threat to your system. OIT’s only goal is to protect your computer, not to police your Internet usage or the content of your files and data.

Will CrowdStrike slow down my machine?

No, CrowdStrike is a very lightweight sensor that consumes less than 1% of CPU resources.

Can I decline the installation of CrowdStrike on my UAH computer?

Crowdstrike is required on all Faculty and Staff endpoints as well as servers connected to UAH’s network.

Will CrowdStrike be available for personal machines?

Currently, we are focusing on deploying Crowdstrike to UAH machines only.  Personal machines are not allowed to join the UAH Crowdstrike deployment.

Is CrowdStrike available for students?

UAH is not making CrowdStrike available to students at this time.
