How do I reset the password on an entity account?

Entity account managers can reset the password on the account by visiting the OIT User Services portal at oitportal.uah.edu. OIT often refers to it as the OIT Portal. In order to change the entity account password, you’ll need to know the Charger ID (aka LDAP ID) of the account.

If you know the current password

Entity account managers who already know the current password on the account should refer to the following instructions:

  1. Visit oitportal.uah.edu in your web browser
  2. Login with the entity account's LDAP ID and current password
    • The LDAP ID is the same as the Charger ID; it's the first part of the official email address - not the email alias
  3. Click My Password(s)
  4. Enter the new desired password in the fields provided, ensure both Charger Account and Google Apps @uah.edu are selected, and click Change now

The next time you log into the entity account, you will be able to use the new password.

If you don’t know the current password

Entity account managers who don't know what the account's current password is should refer to the following instructions:

  1. Visit oitportal.uah.edu in your web browser
  2. Login with your own Charger ID and password
  3. Click Accounts
  4. Click Manage My Accounts
  5. For the ID Contains field, enter the LDAP ID of the entity account and click Refresh / Search
  6. In the search results, click the line for that account and, at the bottom of the screen, check the box for Email new password to me as well
  7. Click Reset Password. This will change the password to a random value that is sent to your UAH email address
  8. Log out of OIT Portal and retrieve the new password from your UAH email
  9. Log into the OIT Portal again at oitportal.uah.edu but this time log into the entity account; use its Charger/LDAP ID and the new password you received via email when you changed it in step 7 above
  10. Click Home
  11. Click My Password(s)
  12. Enter the new desired password in the fields provided, ensure both Charger Account and Google Apps @uah.edu are selected, and click Change now. This makes sure that the change gets pushed out to Google.

The next time you log into the entity account, you will be able to use the new password.

Troubleshooting information

I don't see an Accounts tab

If you don't see an Accounts tab in the OIT Portal, consider the following:

  • Are you the official manager of the account? Only account managers have access to the Accounts tab in OIT Portal.
    • If you don't know who the official manager of the entity account is, please contact the OIT Help Desk.
    • If you should already be listed as the official manager of the entity account, please contact the OIT Help Desk with confirmation from the department head associated with the entity account.

My entity account didn't show up in the search results

There are a few reasons why an entity account might not appear in your search results in the OIT Portal:

  • Did you use the entity account's Charger/LDAP ID? Using an email alias will not return accurate results.
    • If you do not know the Charger/LDAP ID of the account, please contact the OIT Help Desk.
    • Note that you don't need to enter the full Charger ID; you can enter just part of it to perform the search.
  • Are you the official manager of the account? Only managers of the entity account have permission to change its password.
    • If not, you will need to contact the official account manager to change the entity account password.
    • If you don't know who the account manager is, please contact the OIT Help Desk.
    • If you are approved to replace the previous account manager, please contact the OIT Help Desk with approval from the department head associated with the entity account.

For further assistance, contact the OIT Help Desk by emailing helpdesk@uah.edu or calling (256) 824-3333.
