List of Approved AI Tools

Approved AI Tools

AI tools deployed at UAH must align with the following core principles. These principles guide the responsible acquisition, development, and use of AI across our academic, research, and administrative missions.

Human Agency: AI is a powerful tool designed to augment but not replace human judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making. Faculty, staff, and students are responsible for the final output of any work performed, regardless of AI assistance, and must provide appropriate oversight to all output provided by AI Tools.

Data Privacy and Security: The privacy and security of UAH data and personal information are critical security concerns. Faculty and staff may not input non-public data (as defined by the Protection of Data Policy) into any AI tool not approved by OIT. Only approved, institutionally-managed AI services may be used for handling private or restricted information. University information that is already designated as public may be used with any AI tool.

Bias and Fairness: Users should be aware of the potential for algorithmic bias and inaccuracies. AI-generated content must be critically evaluated for fairness and neutrality, especially when used in evaluative or decision-making processes.

Accuracy, Hallucination, and Personal Accountability: Generative AI tools are known to produce 'hallucinations'—outputs that appear factually correct or authoritative but are statistically generated, false, or biased. This includes the creation of non-existent legal citations, scientific references, or historical events.

The use of Generative AI does not absolve the user of responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Whether used for administrative, research, or academic purposes, the final output must be verified by a human. Submitting or publishing AI-generated errors is considered a failure of professional or academic due diligence.

If a tool is not listed below, it is because it has not been evaluated.  If you have an AI tool you would like to use, please open a help desk ticket and submit it for review.

None of the tools are approved for data defined as Protected Health Information (PHI) or Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by U.S. Department of Education definitions.
