How long do I have to setup Google 2SV?

Grace Period for Google 2-Step Verification

We recommend that new students, staff and faculty sign into their Google accounts with their @uah.edu email address and set up Google 2-Step Verification as soon as possible. Learn how to set up Google 2-Step Verification.

From the time the account is created, there is a grace period for account holders to enroll:

  • New students have 1 month (30 days) from account creation
  • New staff and faculty have 2 weeks (14 days) from account creation

What happens if my 2SV isn't set up in time?

Users who haven't enrolled in Google 2SV by their deadline will see the following error message:

“Couldn’t sign you in: Your sign-in settings don’t meet your organization’s 2-Step Verification policy. Contact your admin for more info."

If you receive this error message, please contact the OIT Help Desk so we can provide you backup codes needed to access your Google account. After logging in with one of these backup codes, you may automatically be prompted to enroll in Google 2SV. If not, please follow the steps in Getting Started with Google 2-Step Verification to manually enroll.
