How to: Surplus Computer

Introduction

Before surplusing any computer or group of computers, you must contact the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to ensure that all hard drives are properly removed and securely wiped. This is a critical step in the surplus process, as all data must be securely destroyed prior to the release or sale of any device by UAH.

These steps are only required for Computers, Laptops and External Hard drives.

Printers, monitors, keyboards, mouse and other general computer accessories that do not contain hard drives are not required to be assessed by OIT before being submitted to Asset Management.

Once OIT confirms that the data has been securely erased, the computers may then be sold or otherwise disposed of by the university.

Steps

  1. Fill out and Submit this form
  2. Once received - OIT will reach out to you to schedule the drive removal.
  3. After the drives are removed - OIT can forward the Surplus Form (on your behalf) to the Asset Management Department
    • You will be CCed on the email for this
    • Asset Management should then schedule a time for pick-up of the device(s)
