Updating your 2-Step Verification and Recovery Phone on Gmail

Introduction

It is important to keep your phone number up to date in Gmail, as 2-step verification is required to access your email, an outdated phone number may prevent you from logging in. 

If you are completely locked out of your account or see the message "Your sign-in settings don't meet your organisation's 2-Step Verification policy" please contact the OIT Help Desk for assistance.

Steps

Open Google Account Settings

  1. Sign into your UAH email by visiting https://gmail.com

  2. On the main Gmail page, click your profile picture in the top right corner, and then click "Manage your Google Account"


 

Open Security Settings:

  1. In the left-hand navigation bar, click on Security.

 

Update your Phone Numbers

  1. Click 2-Step Verification to update your verification phone.
  2. Click Recovery Phone to update your backup recovery number.

  • You may be asked to enter your account password before making changes. Once logged in, you can edit or replace your phone number.

If, when trying to log in after clicking one of these options, you are asked to verify with your old phone number that you no longer have access to, please contact the OIT Help Desk for assistance.
