How to Clear Your Cookies or Cache

Introduction

Clearing the browser cache or cookies for a website can often resolve various authentication, formatting, and other types of issues.

Steps

Keyboard Shortcut

To quickly open menus used to clear your cache, cookies, and history, ensure that the browser is open and selected, then press Ctrl-Shift-Delete (Windows) or Command-Shift-Delete (Mac). If this doesn't work, follow the appropriate instructions below.

Hard Reload a Single Page

Hard reloading/hard refreshing a webpage clears the browser cache for the specific page you're on. See the keyboard shortcuts for hard reloading a page below.

  • Chrome
    • On Windows/Linux, hold down Ctrl and click the Reload () icon or hold down Ctrl and press F5
    • On Mac, hold Shift and click the Reload () icon or hold down Cmd+Shift and press R
  • Firefox
    • On Windows/Linux, hold down Ctrl+Shift and press R or hold down Ctrl and press F5
    • On Mac, hold Shift and click the Reload () icon or hold down Cmd+Shift and press R​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
  • Microsoft Edge
    • On Windows, hold down Ctrl and click the Reload () icon or hold down Ctrl​​​​​​​ and press F5
  • Safari
    • On Mac, hold down Option+Cmd​​​​​​​ and press E
