Each UAH email account is based on the user's Charger ID so that the official email address is formatted as ChargerID@uah.edu, yet there's also an alias created. The default format for the alias is firstname.lastname@uah.edu. You can request a change to your alias in the OIT User Services portal. See this article for more information about using the OIT User Services portal. Each user may only have one alias, though. If you complete the steps to request that your alias be changed, your former alias will be deactivated. Once that happens, all email addressed to your former alias will bounce and not be properly directed to you.
The exception to the "one alias per person" rule is for users who have an account on a subdomain such as itsc.uah.edu. OIT took over maintenance of that domain (and others) after they were originally used to create accounts such as jane.charger@itsc.uah.edu. Users who have accounts on a subdomain are allowed to keep that additional alias.
