Introduction
Xtender (also called ApplicationXtender or AppEnhancer) integrates with Banner via Banner Document Management (BDM). BDM allows administrative users to scan and index documents, then associate the images and document data with Banner information.
Read below for instructions on how to scan with Xtender.
Steps
- Log in to Xtender using UAH Single Sign-On
- Once logged in, first ensure scanning is enabled for your user account. Click your account icon in the top right corner of the page, then select User Settings.

- In the list of options, look for Import and click it to expand the options underneath. Check the box for Enable Scanning, then click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page.

- Next, test to ensure you're seeing scan options within Xtender and that the Captiva plugin is working for you. To do so, select an appropriate area from the Applications list to the left side of the page, then start a New Document.
- In the New Document window, there should be a section labeled Scanner in the top toolbar. If your scanner is connected and Captiva is working correctly, the printer icon on the right should change from gray to blue.

If this icon remains gray, try rebooting your computer and accessing Xtender again. If the issue persists, please contact the OIT Help Desk for further assistance.
- Click the blue printer icon and a window will pop up asking if the web application can access the scanner connected to your computer. Select Allow.

- When the Scanner Selection window opens, select your scanner from the list. Usually, the preferred option will be highlighted by default. If you do not see your scanner listed, try unchecking the Show only connected scanners option at the bottom of the window. Once your scanner is selected, click OK.

- If there is no problem with scanner access, you will be returned to the Xtender window and the scan icon to the left in the Scanner section of the toolbar should now be blue.

- Click this blue scan icon to start the scan process. Once the scan is complete, your scanned document will appear in a preview window. Fill out this document's Index information, then Save.
