Import Your UAH Emails Using Gmail POP

Google allows you to transfer all of your emails from one Gmail inbox to another using Gmail POP. This is especially useful for UAH students, faculty, and staff who are graduating, retiring, or otherwise leaving the university and will no longer have access to their UAH email.

This particular article explains how to transfer your emails from your @uah.edu to your personal @gmail.com account using Gmail POP.

Prepare Your UAH Account

  1. Open a private/incognito tab in your web browser and navigate to https://mail.google.com/.

  2. Sign in with your UAH account credentials.

  3. Click the settings icon near the top right corner of the window and then click See all settings.

  4. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

  5. In the POP download section under #1, select Enable POP for all mail.

  6. Choose your preferred option under #2. This will dictate what happens to the emails in your UAH account after the transfer.

  7. Important: Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

  8. Navigate to https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification. If prompted to sign in, enter your UAH account credentials.
  9. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the arrow icon next to App passwords.

  10. Enter a name of your choice for this app password, such as "POP3 Transfer" then click Create.

  11. Do not click anywhere else on this page. You'll need to refer back to this password later. Open a new tab or window and then continue with the steps below.

Prepare the Destination Account

  1. In your new tab or window, navigate to https://accounts.google.com/AddSession and sign in to your destination @gmail.com account.
  2. To get to your email, click the six-dot icon in the top right corner of the window and then click Gmail.

  3. Click the settings icon near the top right corner of the window and then click See all settings.

  4. Select the Accounts and Import tab.

  5. In the Check mail from other accounts section, click Add a mail account.

  6. In the pop-up window, enter your UAH email address and click Next.

  7. Ensure Import emails from my other account (POP3) is selected.

  8. Enter the mail settings and click Add Account:
    • For Username, enter your full UAH email address (including the @uah.edu).
    • For Password, use the password that you generated in Step 11 of the previous section. You may copy and paste it directly into the password field.
    • Ensure POP Server is pop.gmail.com and Port is 995.
    • Ensure Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail. is checked. You may select other options according to your preference.

  9. Select whether you would like to send mail from your UAH account address. If you select Yes, continue following the prompts. If you select No, click Finish

It will take some time for the emails to transfer from your UAH account to your personal account. You can check the status of the import by returning to the Accounts and Import tab.
