How to Install ArcGIS

Introduction

ArcGIS is a family of software tools used for analyzing geographic data. UAH offers two versions of the ArcGIS suite: ArcGIS Desktop Advanced and ArcGIS Pro.

Steps to Install ArcGIS Desktop

Follow the steps below to install and license ArcGIS Desktop. Please note that you must be connected to the UAH network or the UAH VPN during installation and use.

  1. Visit the ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Chargerware page and click the link provided to download ArcGIS Desktop
  2. Run the ArcGIS_Desktop.exe file to launch the installer
  3. Proceed through the Setup program selecting the default or your desired options
  4. After installation completes, the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard will open
    1. In section 1, Select a product, choose Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use
    2. In section 2, Define a License Manager for Concurrent Use products, select Define a License Manager now and enter kmsesri1.ds.uah.edu
    3. Click OK
  5. You should be shown a Licence Summary window confirming your license information. Click OK

You'll now be able to use ArcGIS Desktop Advanced applications such as ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and more.

Steps to Install ArcGIS Pro

Follow the steps below to install and license ArcGIS Pro. Please note that you must be connected to the UAH network or the UAH VPN during installation and use.

  1. Visit the ArcGIS Pro Chargerware page and click the link provided to download ArcGIS Pro
  2. Run the ArcGISPro.exe file to launch the installer
  3. Proceed through the Setup program selecting the default or your desired options
  4. After installation completes, the ArcGIS Sign In window will open. Don't sign in - instead, click Configure Licensing near the bottom left of the window
  5. In the Licensing window that appears, change the License Type to Concurrent Use License
  6. In the License Manager field, enter kmsesri1.ds.uah.edu and ​​click Refresh to get a list of available licenses. Check the box next to ArcGIS Pro Advanced and click OK
  7. ArcGIS Pro will need to close to finish configuration

The next time ArcGIS Pro launches, it will be licensed.
