UAH ResNet Policy

All subscribers to ResNet must sign that they have read and understand the following policies and that they are responsible for all activity on their ResNet connections.

  1. All devices attached to ResNet must be registered. When you first attach your device to ResNet, you will be prompted to register your connection. Any device or connection not properly registered may be disconnected without notice.
  2. All devices attached to ResNet must be configured with a UAH provided IP address via the dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP). Under no circumstances may devices be configured with static IP addresses or addresses not allocated by the ResNet DHCP server. Coincident with this policy, users may not register domain/computer names that use ResNet IP addresses. Users found in violation of this policy may be disconnected without notice.
  3. No router, hub, or other connection-sharing device or software is permitted on any ResNet connection.
  4. Only UAH installed Wireless Access Points and wireless services are permitted. Non-UAH Wireless Access Points and/or connecting to non-UAH wireless services is strictly prohibited. Users found in violation of this policy may be disconnected without notice.
  5. The use of ResNet connections shall be for personal, academic purposes.
    • Computers attached to ResNet may not be used to serve or publish content of any kind. Services which are prohibited by this policy include, but are not limited to: CGI, FTP, HTTP (WWW), IRC, Listserv, Kazaa, NNTP (News), SMTP (e-mail), Telnet, bulletin board, and chat room servers.
    • Use of ResNet connections for commercial purposes, either for-profit or not-for-profit, is strictly prohibited.
    • All e-mail sent via the ResNet network must accurately identify the sender. Sending anonymous e-mail or bulk, unsolicited e-mail (SPAM) is prohibited.
    • Users of ResNet shall not use their connection to harass, abuse, or threaten other users either on campus or across the Internet. Violators may be subject to disciplinary action and may be reported to appropriate law enforcement officials.
    • Users of ResNet shall not run programs that intentionally disrupt network activity, attack specific machines on ResNet or the Internet, or capture private data of other users. Examples of activity that is prohibited by this policy include, but are not limited to: running port scanning software, packet sniffers, mail bombing, ping flooding, SMURF attacks, and SYN flooding. Users found in violation of this policy may be disconnected without notice. Violators may also be subject to disciplinary action and may be reported to appropriate law enforcement officials.
  6. Any use of ResNet that disrupts or obstructs the teaching, research, administration, disciplinary proceedings, or other University activities, including its public service functions, whether on or off campus, or any activity that causes physical damage to ResNet resources will be considered to be an offense against the University community, and will be subject to the disciplinary sanctions outlined in the Student Handbook.
  7. All activity on the residential hall network (ResNet) must be in compliance with UAH's "Acceptable Use Policy" for University computing, the Student Handbook, and all local, state, and federal laws.
