Overview
The new Sharp printers are available on both Windows and Mac devices with easy-install options. If you do not see the printer available to install or have trouble with the easy-install process, please contact the OIT Help Desk.

Windows Computers
You will use UAH's Software Center to install the printer on your Windows computer.
- Locate the search box or icon at the bottom left of your screen next to your Start Menu button. Click it and start typing in “Software Center”. Click the result that comes up with the icon that looks like a blue box and disc.

- Software Center will open up to show a list of application tiles. Look for the bright red Sharp tile with the correct building and office number that you need and click the tile.

- On the next page you will see additional info as well as a blue Install button. Click the Install button to add it to your computer. Note that if the printer is already installed to a computer, the button will be grayed out.

- After the page in Software Center shows that it’s installed, you can verify that it’s showing up on your computer by going to the list of Windows printers and scanners. Use the same search box at the bottom left and type in “Printers”, then click the result for the system settings Printers & scanners to open it.

- Look for the name of the printer that you just installed through Software Center in the list and click it.

- Look for the printer status and make sure it says Idle - this confirms that the computer is able to see the printer over the network. If desired, a test page can also be printed. If accounting is needed, continue to the next step, otherwise, the printer should be ready for you to use.

- Adding Accounting - From the same window with the printer status and test page option, look for the Printing preferences option and click it.

- In the preferences window, click the Job Handling button. In the right side of the window you should have an area to enter in any accounting information. Use the user name or user number provided to you by your department, then click OK. If you do not know your accounting information, you will need to check with your department or the Copy Center staff (copycenter@uah.edu).

Mac Computers
Your Mac computer will first need to be enrolled in the UAH Jamf instance before you will have access to install the Sharp printer. If you do not see the Self Service app that's shown in step 1, you may not be enrolled in Jamf. Please only go through the enrollment process if your device is not enrolled. You can find instructions for enrolling a device here.
- Open up a Finder window and go to your applications folder. Search for a blue icon with the UAH logo for the Self Service app and open it.

- When the window opens, click the Browse option from the pane on the left to expand it, then click Printers. In the right pane look for the bright red Sharp tile with the correct building and office number that you need and click the Install button.

- When complete, verify that the printer is showing up in the list of installed printers by going to the system settings/preferences. Click the Apple logo in the top left of the screen to bring up the menu, then click System Preferences / System Settings.

- Use the search box at the top right or top left of the system preferences/settings window and type in “printers”. Click the result for Printers & Scanners.

- In the printer list, look for the Sharp printer that was just installed and make sure that it’s showing a green dot and “Idle” to indicate that your computer is able to successfully see the printer over the network. If accounting is needed, proceed to the next step.

- In order to access the setting to add in an accounting code, first open up something like Microsoft Word. You can start a new blank document or open an existing document - it does not matter. From the top menu, click File > Print to bring up the print dialog box.

- Make sure the printer is set to the Sharp device where the accounting info needs to be added. Find the box just slightly further down that says Copies & Pages and click it to bring up a drop-down menu. Click Job Handling.

- Click the Authentication tab and in the area below, enter in the user name or number provided to you by your department. If you do not know your accounting information, you will need to check with your department or the Copy Center staff (copycenter@uah.edu).

- Next, look back towards the top for the Presets drop-down with Default Settings selected. Click it to list other options and then click Save Current Setting as Preset.

- Name the preset whatever you like, then make sure it’s set to only be available for that specific printer, then click OK.

- You will be taken back to the print dialog window where you can now click the Presets drop-down again and see the new preset that was saved with your accounting settings. You can click OK from here to try testing printing with whatever document you have open or you can press Cancel and exit out of Word. Note that if you do not print anything at this time, you may have to manually select the preset when you do print from the Sharp printer for the first time.
