Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell which tenant I am logged into?

On the Web

If you're using Office products in a web browser, click the profile icon at the top right corner of the page. Below your name, you'll see an email address. If the domain is @uah.edu, then you're connected to the new tenant. If it is @uah0.onmicrosoft.com, then you are signed in to our old tenant.

Microsoft Office desktop applications

If you're using a Microsoft Office desktop application, click the profile icon near the top right corner of the window. Below your name, you'll see an email address. If the domain is @uah.edu, then you're connected to the new tenant. If it is @uah0.onmicrosoft.com, then you are signed in to our old tenant.

OneDrive desktop application

If you're using OneDrive (not in a web browser), you can check which tenant you're logged into in your OneDrive settings:

  1. To open your OneDrive settings, select the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area.
  2. Then, select the OneDrive Help & Settings (cog) icon.

On the Account tab, view the listed email address. If the domain is @uah.edu, then you're connected to the new tenant. If it is @uah0.onmicrosoft.com, then you are signed in to our old tenant.

I'm seeing an Account Issue error which states "The products we found in your account cannot be used to activate Office in shared computer scenarios." What do I do?

If you receive this error, you may be signed in to our old tenant. Please log into the new tenant per the Logging into Microsoft 365 section below.

If the issue persists when logging in to the new tenant, please contact the OIT Help Desk and let us know the error message your receiving as well as which application(s) you're trying to access. In the meantime, Microsoft applications can be accessed on the web at office.com.

I'm only seeing the data from before the tenant change. What do I do?

It sounds like you are signed in to our old tenant. Please log into the new tenant per the Logging into Microsoft 365 section below.

I've made changes since the transition began. What do I do?

You can log into the old tenant and download the files you've worked on since the data was migrated. You can then sign in to your account on the new tenant and re-upload them to OneDrive. When logging into the old tenant, your username is ChargerID@uah0.onmicrosoft.com (where ChargerID is your own Charger ID). Your password is the Microsoft password you set last.

The data is still accessible on the old tenant for now. The data on the old tenant will not be accessible indefinitely. We encourage you to download any data you need before we begin disabling accounts on the old tenant, which is likely to happen in the near future. OIT will provide warning to the UAH campus prior to this date.

What if I wish to change my display name?

Please note that your account details originate from your Banner record. It's not possible to change the display name solely for this Microsoft 365 account.

If the name displayed in Microsoft is not accurate, your Banner record will need to be updated. Learn about name changes at UAH and how to update your name in UAH systems.

Logging into Microsoft 365

All users should now use the new tenant. Follow the instructions below when signing in to Microsoft 365 on the web or Microsoft 365 desktop applications.

  1. Enter your ChargerID@uah.edu email address (where ChargerID is your own Charger ID). Please note you must sign in using your primary email address, not your firstname.lastname@uah.edu alias.
  2. UAH's branded login page will load. Enter your UAH password. This is the same password used to log in to myUAH, eduroam, and more.

History

In November 2024, OIT began efforts to migrate UAH's Microsoft tenant (including licenses, users, data, etc.) from an old tenant which was erroneously established as being in Australia to a new tenant located in the US. Our new tenant will support Single Sign-On and be better supported and integrated with other UAH systems. Growing pains and related information have been recorded in this article and will be maintained until the project is fully completed.

The Old Tenant

Data from the old tenant was migrated to the new one over the 2024 Winter break. It took more than 3 full days and began on approximately December 22, 2022.

It's possible that data was edited during the migration or afterward on the old tenant, leading to discrepancies between the two tenants post-migration. For this reason, data on UAH's former tenant will remain accessible for now. However, data on the old tenant will not be accessible indefinitely. We encourage you to download any data you need before we begin disabling accounts on the old tenant, which is likely to happen in the near future. OIT will provide warning to the UAH campus prior to this date.

When logging into the old tenant, your username is ChargerID@uah0.onmicrosoft.com (where ChargerID is your own Charger ID). Your password is the Microsoft password you set last.
